Thank you Terry, Brad, Ray and The Home Depot Foundation

May 2nd, 2010 | by admin

Please check out our new South Middle River sign on Andrews going South, at the bridge. We are thankful to Terry for that beautiful replacement to the old, termite filled sign that was there previously.  Wow! What a difference! THANK YOU TERRY.

On June 26, volunteers (perhaps the reader) will descend upon this lovely sign and also at our road closures along Sunrise and with loving hands, shovels and dirt, shrubs, flowers and trees, these areas will be planted with new butterfly/hummingbird friendly trees and shrubs from Home Depot. This has been made possible through a grant received by The Home Depot Foundation. THANK YOU.

Also, please check out the lovely bromeliad flower. Can you guess where this one and others are located in South Middle River? They were planted years ago but we have not seen them blossom until now. We owe these lovely specimens to Brad. THANKS BRAD.

And last but not least, can you guess where these lovely plantings are located? These have been worked on for years and we owe it all to Ray. THANK YOU RAY.

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS NOT MENTIONED HERE. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. WE ARE GRATEFUL TO YOU. EVERY BIT OF WHAT YOU DO MAKES SOUTH MIDDLE RIVER BEAUTIFUL.

The beautification project has been steadily ongoing since inception many years ago. The last time S.M.R.C.A. received money to plant trees was from a Broward Beautiful Grant that former Board member PJ Espinal wrote in 2007. The South Florida native trees and shrubs were planted in 2008 when Rick Gibson was President of S.M.R.C.A. Since then, S.M.R.C.A. Beautification / Landscape Committee members, Jeffrey, Donna, Ray and others, under the direction of Vinnie and Frank, Committee Chairpersons have maintained the closures and “S.M.R.C.A. Signage” areas. Please see what road closures currently look like.

WE ARE ASKING SOUTH MIDDLE RIVER RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES TO PLEASE VOLUNTEER TO CLEAN, PLANT AND MULCH ON SATURDAY, JUNE 26, FROM 8-NOON. PLEASE MEET AT NW 5TH AVE. ROAD CLOSURE AT SUNRISE BLVD. IN FORT LAUDERDALE. WE NEED YOUR HELP.

THE CITIZEN VOLUNTEER CORPS (CVC) WHICH MEANS RESIDENTS FROM ALL FORT LAUDERDALE NEIGHBORHOODS WILL VOLUNTEER TO HELP SOUTH MIDDLE RIVER ON JUNE 26. THANK YOU!
