President’s Message

I thank the board for their support in newly electing me as President subject to ratification by the general membership. I am excited and look forward to working with you as we move forward and continue through the end of next year.
Our neighborhood has seen long and short term projects come to fruition this year and many feel it is an appropriate time to celebrate the milestones we have reached. I take this opportunity to thank our current board as well as previous leaders and boards for all their contributions - all should be recognized as some of these projects

Our cover this month promotes history. Many of you have heard the expression “History repeats itself.” and may agree some of the most powerful historical images around the world are bridges. Bridges are associated with power and change. They must be strong and are built to connect people and places to promote change and communication. They bring people together and in doing so they change our history and our future.

The name of the image on our front cover this month is “Rivet From the Bridge.” I ask you to pause and think for just one moment. (more…)

Rick Photo RightDear SMRCA Friends, this month’s cover deserves explanation. The image you see represents strength and power. It is DIVERSITY.

In February we celebrate Valentine’s Day, and is Black History Month. It is when we respect the history of our African American, Caribbean and Black residents. Let’s not stop here. Please join me in celebrating all our diversity and the incredible power present in South Middle River.

Diversity and power are within each of us, individually and together. We’re unique, but share things, regardless of how different we feel from each other or appear on the surface. I ask you to consider what we share and not how we are different. We share needs to feel safe, be heard, to feel good. We must look at each other as a team, with qualities that when alone, are silent, but when together are deafening. We must as a community, combine our strengths to overcome our weaknesses. (more…)
