501c3 Non Profit Status

August 10th, 2008 | by Carmen Smith

After a long, successful process several years ago, South Middle River Civic Association  obtained its 501c3 non-profit status. Not every civic association has this status or acquiresthis automatically. To achieve this status, South Middle River Civic Association showed a history of minutes, records, qualifying information, standards and other pre-requisites that had to be met. It is a great responsibility to maintain this prestigious standing and South Middle River Civic Association’s members should educate themselves about its meaning.

This status is an honor and it permits South Middle River Civic Association to receive specific grants or monies from corporations and foundations, not given to those without a 501c3. There is much to discover about the importance

Our SMRCA Newsletter-How Does It Happen?

June 13th, 2008 | by Rick Gibson

This beautiful process involves many.  There is not enough room, unfortunately to thank each of you.  The process starts with a need for information.  Themes are determined to bring each of you what you need to make you smile and have hope.

We are determined to deliver “hope” through “truth”.  There are so many things, which are positive. Without knowing, it is normal to be discouraged.  You deserve this newsletter.  Our advertisers are our sponsors, and make printing costs possible. Each month a cover photo is debated and determined through an interesting process. Our Creative Director leads me in balancing design with content.

Our newsletter and website committee meets, and articles are submitted. Then, something incredible happens…our distribution.   There are no words to describe the teamwork and individual efforts of so many people.  These amazing people go door to door, and make this happen. I cannot name them all. They touch lives as they deliver news, one door at a time.

We must thank our hard working volunteers who stuff and deliver newsletters to hundreds and thousands of homes. Nearly 2500 issues are hand delivered to you or mailed to Elected Officials, and our City Management each month. Thanks again to each advertiser, each contributor and author.

Thanks to each of you who help create a bridge of information for us through this newsletter.  For those of you who read SMRCA “Directions” thank you for reading and providing it power, as each of you are the powers behind SMRCA.
